TRANSCRIPT: I'd say for a Pediatric Infectious Disease specialist, it's one of the more common things that we treat. But of course the things that we treat, that we consider common, aren't common for the primary care practitioner. Besides treating patients with Kawasaki disease, we do get a lot of phone calls and see a lot of patients who are referred or who have questions call us about possible Kawasaki disease- where the primary care providers are trying to sort through: Is this someone for whom I ought to pursue Kawasaki disease further and think about having an echocardiogram done, having them seen by an infectious disease or a heart specialist? So we do get lots and lots of calls about it. But the number of patients we actually treat per month, I'd say is about two to three. So for us, I don't think it's a rare disease by any means. But I think what we see is probably the tip of the iceberg.
