I'm a podiatrist working at Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. One thing that I do in the community every couple of months is participate in foot screenings. These foot screenings are about 10-15 minutes long and I basically go through general foot care- reviewing any general prevention for their feet- seeing if they have any medical problems, if they have any specific questions- just directing them in the right direction of where to go to help prevent or help heal their foot pain. Foot pain isn't normal and what we try to do at these foot screenings is make people aware of what's available to them. At Wake Forest, we have a great Foot and Ankle team of physicians that can help them with any particular problems. If they need conservative care or if they need surgical care. One of the great things about these foot screenings is just helping promote healthy foot care within the community and to promote self-awareness of their feet and what they need to do to correct their problems.
